Cantaloupe sugar mix and an award

When I was a kid, I used to cool off my summer with one wonderful fruit from the melon family.  It is called the "Kirini pazham" in tamil and honey dew in english (correct me if i am wrong).  As far as my memory goes, I was 9 years old and it was a scortching summer day.  I asked my aunt (chithi) to buy me some thing cold from the "serbet wala", who sells all colorful drinks on a wooden cart.  She noticed this honeydew being sold and immediately bought some from the nearby shop and made it at home.  I fell in love from the first time I drank it (ate it rather).  It is a very simple mix and  I would always insist on buying this at summer as this is a seasonal fruit.  But unfortunately I couldn't find honey dew at my local market here, so I bought cantaloupe instead.  This is also from the same family and has the same method of preparation.

Ingredients
  • Cantaloupe - 1
  • Sugar - 2 tbsp
Method

Cut the cantaloupe into small pieces and put it in a tall wide bowl.  Add some sugar and smash it well with a spatula.  If you want to, you could also pulse it once in a mixer.  This has an awesome taste to itself, so you could entirely avoid the sugar or adjust to your taste buds.

I am sending this to AFAM: Melons hosted by Ashwini of Ashwini's Spicy cuisine.  AFAM was started by Maheswari of Beyond the Usual
